How do you go about making a card? Do you start with the folded card and work your way to the top layer? Everyone has their own way of doing things but I wanted to show you how I work on a card.
One of the most important things that I can say is "No premature gluing!" Sure, you can usually lift the piece then glue it back down, but after that it never looks quite the same. At least in my opinion.
So, I don't usually glue much of the card or it's pieces until I have it just the way I want it. So, here is a little card tutorial. I hope you likey! This is the card I will be making.
First I cut the layer piece that will eventually be adhered to the folded card. In this case I am using this black polka-dot paper from Bo-Bunny. The measurements are 5.25" x 4". You get a piece like this.
Then I cut the flower and the three strips of paper. For the flower I used the Cricut Machine. I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge . The flower is 2.5". The paper is the back of the black polka dot. I love the flower pattern. I added an orange brad to the center of the flower.
The three strips of paper measure 1" x 4" for the flower paper that is on top. The other two don't need to be as wide because there is only a small portion showing. I made them .75" x 4".
I love to put embellishments on my cards and these chipboard buttons from Jenny Bowlin were perfect for this one. I chose one larger and one smaller button to use on my card.
Then, because I am an inkaholic. I used my fave ink from Quick Quotes (this is the black "Midnight Confession") to ink the edges of all the pieces. I hold up the piece I am inking and "pull" the ink onto the edges. Again, be sure to do this before adhering anything.
I added some fun ribbons to the buttons to give them an extra special touch.
I cut the pieces for the little "thinking of you" saying. The measurements are 1" x 1.25" for the green piece. (This color is hard to see) and for the orange piece 1.25" x 1.50". Then I stamped the saying onto the green piece. When I stamp I love to use the Archival Ink by Ranger. Then ink the edges with the Quick Quotes ink.
Cut the piece for the folded card. This piece is 5.5" x 8.5".
All of your pieces should look like this.
Then, all you do is start adhering everything in the places that you want. I did use mounting tape for the smaller button and the "thinking of you" piece to give the card some dimension. I love mounting tape and use it a lot.
My favorite adhesive product are shown above. 3 in 1 clear liquid adhesive, this is the best liquid glue ever. It does not ripple your paper like white glue does. The runner is a Tombow Dot Roller, Permanent. These are just about the only three products I ever use. I absolutely refuse to use glue stick. I just don't like it.
Here is the final product one more time. Yay! What a great card.
Stamp: My Sentiments Exactly
Orange paper: My Minds Eye
Green paper: The Paper Cut
Twine Ribbon: Paper Mart
Small Satin Ribbon: Unknown I got this from a garage sale.
Well, there you have it. Enjoy!

Beautiful card! I got into cards a while ago. I really enjoyed making them, but haven't found the time here lately to get any made. This makes me want to go ahead and get started on a few Christmas cards. Thank you, Michelle!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Connie :)
Was that "premature gluing" a shot at me...? 'Cause I'm much better than I used to be!
ReplyDeleteAnd, no Stickles? What's up with that? Seriously, very cute card, as usual...well, all except for the "dirty" edges...you know how I feel about that... :)
That's lovely! :)
